Do you know Sarah? -- How long have you known her? ('How long do you know her?' -- yox)
I know Sarah. -- I've known her for a long time. ('I know her for ...' -- yox)
Linda lives in London. -- How long has she lived in London? She has lived there all her life.
I have a car. -- How long have you had your car? I've had it since April.
İndiki davamedici zaman və İndiki bitmiş davamedici zamanı müqayisə edək:
I'm learning German. -- How long have you been learning German? ('How long are you learning German?' -- yox) I've been learning German for two years.
David is watching TV. -- How long has he been watching TV? He's been (= He has been) watching TV since 5 o'clock.
It's raining. -- It's been (= It has been) raining all day.
Fast and slow:
This car goes very fast. It's a fast car.
This car goes very slowly. It's a slow car.
Qeyd: Zərfləri düzəltmək üçün sifətlərin sonuna -ly şəkilçisi əlavə olunur. Lakin fast sözü həm sifət həm də zərf kimi eyni cürdür, ona -ly şəkilçisini əlavə etmək olmaz.
Right and wrong:
This sentence is right. I like coffee very much.
This sentence is wrong. I like very much coffee.
Loud and quiet:
The music is too loud. It's very quiet here.
The teacher speaks very quietly. We can't hear him. She sang loudly.
Well and badly:
She's a good driver. She drives well.
He's a bad driver. He drives badly.
Way:
Sifətin sonun way sözü əlavə olunduqda "tərz" mənası daşıyır:
He's speaking in a friendly way.
She's speaking in an unfriendly way.
