Qaydalı fellər:

Qaydalı fellərin keçmiş və bitmiş forması fel kökünün sonuna -ed şəkilçisini əlavə etməklə düzəlir:

clean —> cleaned       live —> lived         paint —> painted          study —> studied

Keçmiş zamanda:

• I cleaned my shoes yesterday.
• Charlie studied engineering at university.

Bitmiş forması:

• I have cleaned my shoes.
• Jane has lived in London for ten years.
• These rooms are cleaned every day.
• My car has been repaired.

Qaydasız fellər:

Qaydasız fellər də isə keçmiş və bitmiş formada fel kökləri dəyişir.

Keçmiş və bitmiş forması eyni olan qaydasız fellər:

make —> made       find —> found       buy —> bought       cut —> cut

• I made a cake yesterday.
• I have made some coffee.
• Butter is made from milk.

Keçmiş və bitmiş forması fərqli olan fellər:

break —> broke —>broken         know —> knew —>known        
begin —>began —> begun          go —> went —> gone

• Somebody broke this window last night.
• Somebody has broken this window.
• This window was broken last night.

Ön şəkilçilər

Sözün qarşısında olan ön şəkilçilər onların mənasını anlamağa kömək edə bilər:

ex ( isim) -- was but not now -- ex-wife, ex-president
half ( isim və ya sifət) -- 50% of something -- half-price, half-hour
in, im ( sifət) -- not -- informal, impossible
non ( sifət və ya isim) -- not -- non-smoking 
pre -- before -- pre-school 
re ( fel) -- again -- redo, rewrite 
un ( sifət və ya isim) -- not -- unhappy, unsafe

An ex-wife is a wife who is now divorced.
President Gorbachev is an ex-President of Russia.
A half-hour journey is a journey of 30 minutes.
Something that cost £10 yesterday and costs £5 today is half-price.
Informal clothes are clothes like jeans and trainers. Formal clothes are things like a suit.
If something is impossible, you can't do it. It is impossible to read with your eyes closed.
A non-smoking room is a room where people may not smoke.
Pre-school children are children who are still too young to go to school.
